a journey through landscapes real and imagined

Day by Day

We hope you know new mercies every day! We are working to recognize the many blessings we receive each day. Music is one of the most important blessings in our home! We hope you find comfort in it too.

Deep Deep Love

When I see the amazingly beautiful creatures that our Creator made and takes joy in, I know His love for me is deep! Today I was able to go for a long photography walk in a Forest Preserve. I went right after the rain stopped, and no one was around for the first hour I was there. It was just what I needed. To be outside. The birdsong chorus was amazing, and restorative. Here is some of what I saw…

Eastern Bluebird
Red-winged Blackbird
Great Horned Owl

Wren’s hymn of comfort today is one of our favorites. We decided to try our hand at editing a side-by-side video so she could play two parts.

Oh the Deep Deep Love of Jesus

Blessed Assurance

Two weeks of e-learning down! Spring Break will be hard, though since it’s not a break for all of us. At least the lilac is starting to bud and crocuses are up! Sure signs that it’s getting closer to Spring!!

Blessed Assurance

It is well

As we settle into this new rhythm of life, I am noticing a feeling of peace that is lifting us above the panic and anxiety. Finding little things we can do to help and encourage others is one way to keep our souls “well”. We love being able to share this music. Here is the hymn for today:

It is Well with My Soul

Those of you who know us, know that we spend quite a bit of time in healthcare facilities. Wren has some pretty amazing doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and the list goes on. We are so thankful for how they have cared for her through the years! We pray constantly for their safety through this crisis, and when one of my former students described just how serious the situation was at local hospitals, we were inspired to collect personal protective equipment for those healthcare workers and first responders on the front lines. It seems like the least we can do! I’m so thankful that my colleagues and the administration at the college has helped me to facilitate a collection of gloves and masks that I will deliver to the DuPage County Health Department. Look at how generous everyone has been!

Donations – 20 cases of gloves, 300 N95 masks, dust masks and pleated masks!

Amazing Grace

Wren picked Amazing Grace for Wren’s Hymn of Comfort Today.

Amazing Grace

We might be at home, distanced from our friends and family, but God sends us reminders of his faithfulness (Amazing Grace). Today we were blessed with blue skies and flocks and flocks of cranes. When I looked at the pictures on my computer, I was delighted to see that there were Whooping Cranes mixed in the groups! This is a life species for me (some people actually keep a written list, I just keep a running list in my head (and bird book)). Whooping cranes are endangered, so it’s even more special to see them. I always scan groups of cranes hoping to see one or two, but I’ve never seen one until today… and there were several in this group. Sandhill cranes do not have black wing tips…whooping cranes do! Here are some photos:

It’s kind of hard to tell with the silhouette, but I think these are all sandhill cranes
